Pitching for the first time a Made in India product on the global stage, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) has unveiled a indigenously developed NATO-standard complaint Light Armoured Multi-role Vehicle (LAMV) for the armed forces at the ongoing IDEX 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
The move is aimed at tapping into the robust global armoured vehicle market, which is set to grow from $22.28 billion in 2023 to 37.85 billion dollars by 2035, registering a CAGR of 6 per cent over this period.
Sharing details exclusively with businessline, Sukaran Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, TASL, said, “The global launch of the TASL 4×4 LAMV marks a significant milestone in showcasing India’s defence manufacturing capabilities on the world stage. TASL is delighted that its Land Systems team has identified significant market opportunities to introduce a newly designed product, developing it to be truly unique in its class.
“The unveiling of the LAMV demonstrates our commitment to delivering advanced, mission-ready solutions for armed forces worldwide,” Singh, who was at the IDEX 2025 Abu Dhabi, said resonating with the government’s push for exports of Indian defence hardware and software.
TASL, which has already positioned itself in the aerospace domain through a partnership with Airbus to manufacture the C-295 medium transporter in India for the Indian Air Force, and by supplying key components for international fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft manufacturers is trying to acquire global footprints in the land mobility system too.
The LAMV is highly customisable to meet diverse operational and qualitative needs, it can be tailored to country-specific defence requirements, sources in India’s leading defence company said.
For TASL, the target markets for the LAMV are United Kingdom, West Asia, North Africa, and Latin America.
Designed for reliability, maintainability, and safety, it ensures efficient lifecycle support and long-term operational readiness.
The LAMV 4×4, the global variant of TASL’s Light Armoured Multi-role Vehicle (LAMV) in a 4×4 configuration, is not only a NATO-standard compliant but is an air-transportable platform designed to enhance battlefield mobility and protection for military forces worldwide.
It comes in two versions to suit different missions. For reconnaissance (scouting) operations, it offers space for a driver and three crew members, providing them with strong protection against attacks.
For transporting troops safely, a larger version of the LAMV seats up to 11 personnel with the same high-level of protection
The vehicle is designed to operate smoothly in both deserts and high-altitude regions and can reach a maximum speed of up to 100 kmph, say TASL sources.
It also has features like cutting-edge ballistic protection up to ‘Stanag level 3’, which means the vehicle can withstand the impact of ammunition fired by machine guns and sniper rifles, including 7.62mm rounds with a steel core.
The integration of a Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) enables predictive maintenance, allowing operators to anticipate and address potential issues before they impact mission readiness.
