The Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a statement on Friday denouncing remarks made by Congress leaders regarding President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament, emphasizing that such comments undermine the dignity of the presidential office and are therefore unacceptable.
The President’s office suggested that the leaders might not be familiar with the nuances of Indian languages, including Hindi, which may have led to a misunderstanding of the address. They described the remarks as “in poor taste” and “unfortunate,” asserting they were entirely avoidable.
Following the President’s speech delivered to a joint session of Parliament, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were observed discussing the address. In a video circulating on social media, Sonia Gandhi allegedly remarked, “The poor lady, the President, was getting very tired by the end…she could hardly speak, poor thing.”
In response, Rashtrapati Bhavan clarified that these comments are inappropriate, emphasizing that the President appeared neither tired nor unable to speak. The statement underscored that the President’s commitment to advocating for marginalized communities, women, and farmers during her address is a source of strength and inspiration, not a sign of fatigue.
