Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, describing him as the mastermind behind India’s economic reforms and acknowledging his leadership during difficult periods for both the country and the Reserve Bank.
In a video message, Modi recognized Singh, who preceded him in office, as a leader who “articulated the concerns of the underprivileged” while remaining steadfast in his commitment to economic liberalization.
The Prime Minister highlighted Singh’s impressive journey from humble beginnings to the highest office in the nation. “He was known for his pro-reform stance and guided India through numerous challenges. He even took charge of the Reserve Bank during tough times and implemented significant reforms as Finance Minister,” Modi stated.
Modi also acknowledged Singh’s resilience as a Parliamentarian, noting his determination to attend sessions in a wheelchair.
The current Prime Minister emphasized that Singh transcended party politics, being “accessible and open to all.” He reminisced about his interactions with Singh during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, where they discussed various national and international issues.
