Kerala is evolving into a cohesive urban entity, with industries disseminated throughout the state, according to P Rajeeve, the State Industries Minister. While inaugurating the KINFRA International Convention Centre in Kakkanad, near Kochi, he highlighted that Kerala has been rated first in Ease of Doing Business based on feedback from investors. The government is actively working to capitalize on this potential, participating in global forums like the World Economic Forum to engage with investors and promote opportunities in Kerala.
The Minister emphasized that having key decision-makers at these events boosts investor confidence, which is why senior officials are included in these delegations. He stated that over the last 15 years, Kerala has not ranked among the states with the highest number of strikes in India; in fact, Tamil Nadu leads in this regard. This dispels the prevalent misconception that strikes and protests are common in Kerala.
Additionally, Kerala has lower costs compared to other states when it comes to attracting investors, yet it continues to generate substantial interest. The government is dedicated to providing the necessary land and infrastructure to support investment initiatives. To foster comprehensive industrial development, nearly 50 events, including conclaves and roadshows, are planned, as stated by the Minister.
Although Kerala has the highest number of five-star hotels in the country, it often lacks adequate facilities for hosting international conferences, particularly during the tourist season when accommodations become scarce. To rectify this issue, the Minister underscored the need for more convention centres and related facilities, with organizations like KINFRA taking the initiative.
The newly opened convention centre spans 51,715 square feet across three floors and features a climate-controlled hall with a seating capacity of 640, a mini hall for 100, a dining area, a kitchen, VIP guest rooms, a lounge, a boardroom, and other amenities. This facility is well-suited for international seminars, presentations, and conferences, and it has already been booked for events starting January 25.
Additionally, the centre provides parking for approximately 700 vehicles and includes an outdoor stage for events. Its location offers direct access to the Infopark Expressway, and connectivity will be further enhanced with the completion of the metro’s second phase, which is just two kilometers away from the Seaport-Airport Road.
