NEW DELHI: The BJP has reclaimed power in Delhi after 27 long years, achieving a significant victory over Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP. With AAP and Congress competing as opposing forces in Delhi, there was potential for the BJP to gain ground in various constituencies due to the splitting of votes. Although this division did aid the BJP in numerous areas, it had minimal effect on constituencies with a substantial Muslim demographic.
Delhi Election Results 2025
The AAP continued to be a formidable presence in most of these regions. Despite not achieving a majority, the AAP showed strong performance in Muslim-majority areas. The party managed to win key constituencies like Seelampur, Matia Mahal, and Ballimaran, while the crucial Okhla seat was still in the counting phase, with AAP’s Amanatullah Khan holding a robust lead over AIMIM’s Shifa ur Rehman Khan and BJP’s Manish Chaudhary, who was in third place.
The AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, ran for two seats in Delhi—Okhla and Mustafabad. Mustafabad recorded the highest voter turnout at 69%. Here, AIMIM garnered 33,474 votes, while Congress claimed 11,763. Despite their combined count exceeding 45,000 votes, BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht emerged victorious, defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan by a margin of 17,000 votes. A pre-poll collaboration among AAP, Congress, and AIMIM could have potentially shifted the results in favor of AAP.
A similar situation arose in Badli, where AAP and Congress collectively received over 65,000 votes. Nevertheless, BJP’s candidate secured the seat with 46,129 votes, underscoring the possible benefits of a strategic alliance.
