Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has recently secured a major contract from the Indian Army for the supply of K9 Vajra-T self-propelled artillery platforms. This contract, valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore, is a significant milestone for L&T’s precision engineering systems division. The K9 Vajra-T is a 155mm/52-caliber tracked howitzer, jointly developed by L&T and Hanwha Aerospace, based on the South Korean K9 Thunder. It is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Indian Army for various terrains.
In 2017, L&T delivered the first batch of 100 K9 Vajra-T platforms ahead of schedule, showcasing its expertise in designing and manufacturing complex defence systems. The second batch of these platforms will also be produced at L&T’s Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, Gujarat, which plays a vital role in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
This order aligns with L&T’s commitment to supporting India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative by strengthening the Indian Army’s self-reliance with domestically produced equipment. The company’s stock has shown positive growth following the announcement of this contract.
Overall, L&T’s success in securing this major Indian Army order highlights its capabilities in the defence sector and reinforces its position as a key player in India’s defence manufacturing industry.
