In order to build a green hydrogen hub in Gujarat, the state government has approved, “in-principle,” nearly 1.99 lakh hectares of land for setting up a renewable energy park for green hydrogen production.
“Gujarat is ready to become the national hub of green hydrogen with its immense renewable energy potential, robust port infrastructure and well developed LNG pipeline network. For the same, Government of Gujarat has set a production target of 30 lakh metric tons of green hydrogen per year,” said Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat while addressing the Gujarat legislative assembly on the first day of the month-long budget session, on Wednesday.
The Gujarat government has declared an unused government land lease allotment policy for the production of green hydrogen by using unconventional energy sources like solar/wind/wind-solar hybrid energy. Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for more than ₹3 lakh crores have also been signed in the field of green hydrogen during the Vibrant Gujarat summit in 2024. “Generation of about 100 GW from unconventional energy sources will be required for the production of green hydrogen. The Government of Gujarat has approved in principle allotment of nearly 1.99 lakh hectares of land to establish a renewable energy park for green hydrogen production,” the Governor said while addressing legislators.
“It has been planned to increase the capacity of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) and GETCO network for electricity generation,” he added. The total installed electricity generation capacity of Gujarat is 57,664 MW, which is the highest in the country. Gujarat has a renewable energy capacity of 31,483 MW, of which 12,474 MW consists of wind energy installations and 16,796 MW of Solar energy projects. Acharya Devvrat also said that renewable energy parks with an additional capacity of about 37000 MW were being built in the state.
