India has announced a new initiative to provide 50 Quad scholarships worth ₹4 crore to students from the Indo-Pacific region who wish to pursue undergraduate engineering programs. This announcement was made during the Quad Leaders’ Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in various events, including the Quad Cancer Moonshot event and bilateral meetings with leaders from the US, Japan, and Australia.
During the summit, PM Modi emphasized the importance of a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, highlighting the Quad’s commitment to a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty. He also underscored the need for peaceful resolution of all issues without explicitly mentioning any country.
In addition to the scholarships, PM Modi also pledged support in the form of cancer screening kits, detection kits, vaccines, and radiotherapy treatment for cervical cancer. India will contribute 40 million vaccine doses for Indo-Pacific countries as part of the GAVI and QUAD initiatives.
The next Quad Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to be hosted by India in 2025, reaffirming the Quad’s commitment to continued collaboration and cooperation in the region.
