The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the bypoll for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat will take place on November 13. This seat became vacant after Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, decided to retain the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress party has nominated AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, marking her debut in electoral politics. This decision highlights the strategic importance that the Gandhi family places on the constituency, which has been a long-term stronghold for the party in south India. The Election Commission also revealed that by-elections will be held for 47 assembly constituencies.
