India’s hopes of advancing in the T20 World Cup 2024 were dashed as New Zealand secured a convincing 54-run victory over Pakistan in the final Group A match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With this win, the White Ferns joined Australia in the semifinals.
Prior to the match, India, Pakistan, and New Zealand were all in contention for a spot in the semifinals. However, New Zealand emerged as the frontrunners and ultimately clinched the semifinal berth under the leadership of Sophie Devine.
New Zealand put up a dominant performance as they bowled out Pakistan for a mere 56 runs, marking the second-lowest team total in Women’s T20 World Cup history. Spinners Amelia Kerr and Eden Carson were instrumental in dismantling the Pakistani batting lineup, sharing five wickets between them.
Despite dropping eight catches, New Zealand managed to score 110/6 with Suzie Bates and Brooke Halliday contributing significantly. In response, Pakistan’s batting collapsed, with only a few players managing to put up a fight before being dismissed.
Overall, it was a clinical performance by New Zealand, who will now face the winners of Group B in the semifinals. India, on the other hand, will be disappointed as they bow out of the tournament.
